A Great Journalist who has lost his way! . That is the best way i can think about Arnab Goswami, the highest rated anglicized Indian news channel’s star anchor.
Prior to May 2014
He had total respect from me when ,
He opened files of 1995 ‘Parulia Arms Drop’ - a case where a Congress Govt had got arms air - dropped in West Bengal to destabilize the state government.
He opened up documents on 1984 attack on Sikhs by Congress and showed how Congress goons had attacked even the then President of the country - Giani Zail Singh.
Finally, i was totally in awe of him when he questioned the hot heads of Bhartiya Janta party like Yogi Adityanath.
“A neutral, fearless journalist at last” - I said to myself. I let go his pussy cat interview of Narendra Modi “in the larger interest of journalism”
Post May 2014
I was campaigning for Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) and i was waiting for him to conduct a prime time debate on how the central bjp govt was doing everything it can to NOT allow an election to take place. No such debate happened and I was dejected in him.
He questioned, riled, trashed AAP all the time and i still told myself - “Barring the personal enmity with Arvind , Arnab is an upright journalist and will take on the BJP too”
Three years on, i am more dejected in him than ever.
Republic TV - A ‘North Korean’ Channel
Fast forward to today. Here are the shameless hashtags that he has been using that scream out his pro-establishment bias. And All of this with in 1 month of its launch. If this does not convince you, how dangerous his ‘North Korean’ type propaganda channel is then you are just too innocent even to be scared!
Nationalism
Someone asked him a question on his channel’s launch about whether the nation is today in an Nationalistic Overdrive. His answer was “Nationalism - We can never have enough of it”.
Then some one else asked him why is he allowing BJP’s Rajeev Chandrashekhar to invest in his channel. He said “Guy is a Nationalist”.
Hence it is clear that Arnab will use everything - even a sensitive issue like Patriotism to cover up for BJP’s top leadership and his personal sins.
THAT pretty much sums up Arnab Goswami for me. :-(
