I found a bulky and healthy discussion about this crucial topic. So i am highlighting some crucial factors why people aren’t liking MS Dhoni.
As a Team player and as Wicket Keeper, there is no question mark on Dhoni, but there are some issues related to high professionalism under captaincy of MS Dhoni.
- MS Dhoni was selected for nation team in December 2004 first time for the tour of Bangladesh. Sourav Ganguly (Captain) was only the reason, who forced the selector to pick up Dhoni.
- In 2007, for first T20 World cup, MS Dhoni was elected as captain, because Dravid, Tendulkar, and Ganguly had left their seats for Newcomers.
- People gives whole credit for WT20 winning to MS Dhoni. But we should not forget it was a team effort, and Sehwag, Gambhir & Yuvraj played a very crucial role in that. In the Final game, if someone remember the last over, full of drama and excitement. So we can give credit to dhoni, but not as a whole.
- in October 2007, Dhoni was replaced Rahul Dravid as full time captain for ODI Squad, with in 3 months of Captaincy of Dhoni, the Drama begins and Sourav Ganguly was the first man, permanently kick-out from ODI in between the crucial tour of Australia in January 2008, without any reason.
- In the Commonwealth Bank ODI Series of 2008 (Australia), Dhoni replace the opening order, Rohit Sharma now new opener and Virender Sehwag was not selected in Final XI in many matches on the same tour.
- In March 2009, Dhoni replace Anil Kumble, so now he was test captain also, beat NewZealand by 1–0 in NewZealand, but the point is that Kiwi team was 2nd layer team, and senior players of NewZealand had boycott the tour due to sponsorship & salary issue with their Board.
- For test matches point of view, if we compare Ganguly & Dhoni, although Dhoni seems to better in paper record overall, but if the performance is custmized as per overseas conditions (Specially Australian, England, South African track), Ganguly had much better record.
- In 2011 India won WORLD CUP, credit given to Dhoni, but we knew that, it was a team efforts, Home Conditions, Better Luck and Easy Game Format (Quarter Final format) were also factors. Think, about the format of SUPERSIX in 1999 & 2003 World Cup were more complex. (INDIA in 2011 had much better home advantage credits). Same Captain, Same Format in 2015 WORLD CUP, except home venues, but result differs.
- from July 2011 to January 2012, MS DHONI lost 7 test matches in a row overseas ( This should be 8 matches, but in Adelaide Test in Jan 2012, Dhoni didn’t participate and Sehwag was acting captain).
- He is the only man in Indian cricket history, who retained as captain after 7 successive lose in test matches, but this was not an issue for Media & fans.
- In August 2012, VVS LAXMAN dropped from test matches, for the NewZealand tour to INDIA, and point is, the venue was Hyderabad, hometown of VVS LAXMAN.
- Laxman was shocked due to sudden drop, he called to MS DHONI, but dhoni didn’t pick the call (As Laxman said in an interview after dropped). After that Laxman announced retirement from international cricket. Sources said that DHONI was behind the screen.
- In March 2013, Sehwag was permanently dropped from team for AUSTRALIA tour to INDIA, Sehwag replaced by Shikar Dhwan. But the point is, Sehwag was in good test form at that time, so why he dropped, no one knew.
- Dhoni gave more commitment to IPL & CSK (Chennai Super King), CSK is banned due to Match Fixing scams. Justice R. M. Lodha is handed over a report, which is a list of 13 players, who played at international level and found involved in match fixing. As some sources says that half of them are from CSK. So how one can believe that Dhoni was not aware of that.
- In March 2014, INDIA lost the final of T20 World Cup 2014, and whole blamed to Yuvraj Singh & Yuvraj was permanently dropped from team.
